Hunstanton grew to become a fully fledged Victorian seaside resort under the patronage of Henry Styleman Le Strange and spurred on by the investment boom between 1850 and 1870. The pier was built in 1870 and by 1881 the town had two hotels, a pier and many handsome terraces
Once risibly described in Victorian times as ‘the poor man’s St Moritz’, Hunstanton is better known today by its nickname of ‘Sunny Hunny’ on account of its spectacular West-facing sunsets.
